How to Make a Photo Collage Online: Layout, Cropping and Export
Combine up to nine photos into one image, choose output dimensions and avoid awkward crops with a practical four-photo example.
A collage works well when several photos tell one short story: four moments from a trip, a few product details or a small family collection. Kırpmadan's Collage Maker arranges up to nine images in an automatic grid. You choose the output dimensions, background and file format, then download one finished image.
Why use this approach?
Each image becomes smaller when you place several into one frame. Selecting a few clear photos and checking the grid at the size people will actually see it is more useful than adding as many pictures as possible. The tool fills each cell by cropping from the centre, so subjects near an edge need particular attention.
Step by step
- Open Collage Maker and select Choose images. Start with four JPG, PNG or WebP photos for a simple two-by-two grid.
- Set Output dimensions. For a square sharing image, 1600 × 1600 pixels is a useful starting example; use the destination's requested dimensions when provided.
- Choose a background colour for the gaps. Review every cell for cropped faces, cut-off lettering and distracting differences in brightness.
- Select JPG for a photographic collage and start with the default 92% quality. Choose PNG when sharp graphics are more important than a small file.
- Select Create and download. Open the saved image and review it both at full size and at a phone-sized view before sharing.
Example: four photos from a day out
Choose a wide scene, a person, a close-up and one small detail. With a square output and four images, the automatic grid creates four square cells. A subject near the centre of each source image is easier to keep visible. If one photo becomes confusing when reduced, replace it with a simpler composition.
Why are the edges of my photos cropped?
The grid fills each cell without stretching the image. When a photo and its cell have different proportions, part of the photo is cropped. This tool does not offer manual positioning inside individual cells. For a composition that must remain complete, prepare a copy in Image Resizer using Fit and a frame matching the cell's proportions, then select that copy for the collage.
How many photos should you select?
Four or nine images fill a square grid evenly. Other counts can leave unused grid space; the background colour will show there. The tool accepts at most nine images from a selection. There is no drag-to-reorder control, so check the preview order and reselect or prepare your files if you need a different arrangement.
Collage or carousel?
A collage is one image containing several pictures. A carousel lets viewers move between separate images. Kırpmadan's Carousel Splitter divides one wide image into numbered panels; it does not assemble separate photos into a slideshow. Choose that workflow when you already have a panoramic photo or a continuous wide design.
Choosing dimensions and file size
Larger output dimensions do not recover detail from a tiny source photo. Start with clear originals, choose dimensions for the intended destination and avoid repeated JPG exports. If the finished collage is too large to attach, compress that finished copy once instead of heavily compressing every source image first.
